"An Neuden" beacon tower

"An Neudenn " translates from britton language as " the Thread "

.. This tower , now more than a hundred years old , is somehow the trade-mark of Brignogan for cruising yachtsmen . Construction began in April 1880 and was finished in June 1881. The tower was then painted in black (according to the french rule of the time , port side of a channel when entering = black ) and sported a 1m diameter spherical top-mark .

Unfortunately a very strong gale was to destroy it on the 3rd and 4th of February 1889 . The rebuild would not be achieved before July 1891. The new tower was still black.
Its height was luimited to 2 m 70 , and the top-mark was 4 m 30 cm above the highest waters at Spring tides. Ever since , the tower has been maintained in good shape ( and painted in red ! !) by " Phares & Balises "the french equivalent to Trinity House
.
